On the International Day of Peace on Sept. 21, 2013, ethecon - Foundation Ethics & Economics announced this year‚s recipients of the two international ethecon prizes. The Blue Planet Award 2013 honours the Holocaust survivor Esther Bejarano. The 2013 Black Planet Award reviles the managers and major shareholders of DEUTSCHE BANK. The prizes will be awarded on Nov. 16 in Berlin.
Awarded annually, the International ethecon Blue Planet Award honours outstanding efforts for the preservation and rescue of the „Blue Planet“. The International ethecon Black Planet Award denounces people who bear responsibility for the shocking ruin and destruction of the earth and thus have created the risk of a „Black Planet“. The positive and negative ethecon prizes have been awarded since 2006.
Esther Bejarano is one of the last survivors of the Girls‘ Orchestra of Auschwitz, which was built up from prisoners of the death camp. The eyewitness will receive the ethecon Blue Planet Award 2013 for her decades of tireless efforts against anti-Semitism, racism and fascism.
The CEOs Anshu Jain and Jürgen Fitschen and other managers and major shareholders are the ethecon Black Planet Award 2013 reviled for countless abuses and crimes in the name of the profits of DEUTSCHE BANK: criminal connection with Hitler's fascism, food speculation, big-time land grabs, manipulation of interest rates, dealing with risky mortgages, enabling tax evasion through Offshore-leaks and so on.
The awarding of the two international ethecon prizes is part of a public ceremony in the ethecon conference „Stop Fracking - No poison into our Earth!“ On Saturday, Nov. 16, on Pfferberg in Berlin (Schönhauser Allee 176). Esther Bejarano will attend the ceremony and accept the prize in person. The event starts at 2 p.m. and is free, but registration is required.
On the same day there will be an 8 p.m. lecture and a concert with Esther Bejarano and the Microphone Mafia, as well as with Kern. Also Great Hall of the Pfefferwerk (House 13) in the Schönhauser Allee 176. Admission: 10 €, reduced 7 €. In recent years the International ethecon Blue Planet Awards honoured Diane Wilson / USA (2006), Vandana Shiva / India (2007), José Abreu and Hugo Chávez / Venezuela (2008), Uri Avnery / Israel (2009), Elias Bierdel / Austria ( 2010), Angela Davis / USA (2011) and Jean Ziegler / Switzerland (2012). The ethecon negative prizes, however, each reviled individually named managers and shareholders of the corporations MONSANTO / USA (2006), NESTLÉ / Switzerland (2007), BLACKWATER (XE) / USA (2008), FORMOSA PLASTICS GROUP / Taiwan (2009), BP / Great Britain (2010), TEPCO / Japan (2011) and GLENCORE / Switzerland (2012).
In contrast to many corporate, family, church, party and state foundations, ethecon is one of the few foundations directed „from below,“ which with its current 39 pledged supporters and the motto, „For a world without exploitation and oppression,“ sees its responsibility towards future generations. The fledgling foundation is financed through regular pledges, donations and memberships.
